Jules doesn’t have time for romance, she’s too busy saving the world and she enlists Zip (the gunstore owner), Heavy (an ex-PI) and Frank (a mysterious recluse) to help. Vance has made it his mission that Jules won’t get dead while dishing out vigilante justice. It might just be a case of it’s me not Jules.Jules has got a score to settle against the drug dealers of Denver.
I seem to be in the minority about this one so check out other reviews. The narrator has become comfortable in mastering the storytelling and voice distinctions, which is also a big bonus as I will continue listening to the series. There were lots of hilarious moments and frightening ones, too, that helped to keep me going. I liked the story but didn’t enjoy it at the level of the earlier ones because of my failure to connect with Jules. I also liked when the Rock Chicks embraced Jules, giving her insights into her feminine side as she was severely lacking after being raised mostly by men. But, their tender moments were what kept me going, those times when both were willing to be vulnerable with each other. Her command of the streets seemed implausible and constant threats to leave Vance wearying. Jules had all the makings of an interesting addition to the Rock Chicks but her immaturity and recklessness gave me one too many eye-rolling moments. I had high hopes for this story as I’d become a big fan of Vance Crowe from Roxie’s last book. In the meantime, these two Alphas struggle to figure out their boundaries and make a relationship work. Of course, their chemistry is combustible but Jules stubbornly refuses to back down and leave control of the streets to the professionals.
Things get dangerous and Jules gets the attention of Lee Nightingale and his team, specifically Vance Crowe, the gorgeous and broody tracker. There are three young boys who she’s become particularly invested in and when one of them is harmed by area drug dealers, she takes them on and disrupts their nighttime business.
Juliet (Jules) Lawler is a social worker whose focus is on at-risk teens at a local Denver center.
